LONGDENDALE TALES WITH CLARE SAVORY
Back in November, we turned the KIN.DER mezzanine floor into artist studios and we have since been joined by three talented artists. This week we want to introduce you to Clare Savory. Clare is a podcast presenter and producer for A Small Furry Bear Productions. Her passion for walking in the many hills across the Peak District and following the contours of the River Etherow is usually accompanied by a podcast or audio series playing in her headphones.
Clare has recently been successful in securing a Pairings Residency with Glossop Creates. Clare has paired with the Peak District National Park and has been commissioned to explore and research the Longdendale Valley and celebrate nature on our doorstep; its distinctive characteristics, heritage and communities.
‘Not many people know the chain of five reservoirs were a first of their kind in the world, and the now trail-disused-railway was another first too - Britain's first all-electric mainline. Say the Peak District National Park and most people would say 'Kinder Scout' or a Bakewell tart over the Longdendale Valley.’ - Clare
Clare has produced a 28-part podcast series exploring the often-forgotten stories of the Longdendale valley - past and present.
She rediscovers Crowden, Woodhead, Tintwistle, Hadfield and the many reservoirs running along the Longdendale Trail, TransPennine and Pennine ways.
This pilot project is supported by Glossop Creates and the Peak District National Park’s Longdendale Environmental Centre in Tintwistle.
You can listen to her Podcast on all podcast platforms or via YouTube where her brilliant aural storytelling is accompanied with visuals by Owain Paciuszko.
On top of this, Clare has curated an interactive digital map; featuring photos, artwork, research and more.
