Below you can find a bunch of information and guidance for the workshops we (Richard and Lauren) run at KIN.DER. If you have a question that isn't answered here, feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks!
GENERAL STUFF THAT APPLIES TO ALL WORKSHOPS
You can find us at Glossop Gasworks, Arundel Street SK13 7AB (the big building next to Aldi, opposite Fairway Motors). There is a carpark round the back which is free to use as a visitor to the building.
Once you are in our studio space please take good care around equipment and the tools involved. We will make the space as safe as possible but it is a work environment so naturally there are certain precautions to be taken.
We cannot be held responsible for any injuries caused through the misuse of the studio or equipment.
In the event of non-attendance or arriving late to a workshop it is not possible to provide alternative studio time, or for a class to be rescheduled. Classes are at fixed times to cover the cost of tuition. We run at full capacity so it is not possible to swap classes or use the studio outside of the allotted class times to catch up.
Refunds will only be issued up to 14 days before your workshop date (minus a £5 admin fee). After this period, if you cannot make the workshop your fee will be retained as we will be unable to fill your space. However, you may transfer your booking to another person. We reserve the right to cancel workshops through illness or if not enough people sign up to a particular session. In this case a full refund will be offered or we can move you to another session if available.
COVID / ILLNESS:
As an independent studio and shop we suffer badly if we need to close for any period of time and we want to keep working! Please don't come if you are unwell. We'll do the same.
We want to make printmaking available to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. KIN.DER is fully wheelchair accessible, with disabled toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at email@example.com or pop into the shop to discuss any concerns you may have before booking.
All workshops are for over 16's only.
SCREEN PRINTING WORKSHOPS
We are currently only offering an introductory workshop to screen printing. Going forward we would like to introduce more in-depth courses where people can attend several sessions to develop their skills and practice. Let us know if this is of interest to you and we will put you on a list to be informed first before making these courses public.
These classes are social, relaxed sessions aimed at all abilities. If you are attending an introductory session then you can expect to learn about the fundamentals of screen printing and see the entire process from start to finish. From artwork to print. These workshops will start with the basics to give you an idea of how this method of printing works and hopefully leave you with a ton of ideas about what you can achieve! Please note we will only be working with fabric during the introductory workshops.
It's good to make artwork in the session to get the most out of the workshop. Alternatively you can bring a selection of work and we can advise and teach you the best possible methods to create your artwork using the process. The artwork must be black and white only and without fine detail. Bold is better at this stage. You will be printing your own design using a single colour print onto a white t-shirt or natural tote bag (we will provide these for you and we have shirts in all sizes). You will leave with two shirts or bags but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Alternatively you can purchase additional shirts for £5 each or bags for £2 each.
We are currently offering a Risograph introductory single workshop and a 3 session develop your ideas course.
These classes are social, relaxed sessions aimed at all abilities. During the introductory session you will learn the methods and possibilities of Risograph printing. We will be on hand to answer any questions, show you a range of printing options and we'll discuss paper and inks too. You will have the opportunity to make an edition using 2 colours. We currently have 4 colours to choose from: fluro pink, yellow, aqua blue and black.
It's good to make artwork in the session to get the most out of the workshop. Alternatively you can bring a selection of work and we can advise and teach you the best possible methods to create your artwork using the process. As with screen printing, black and white artwork yields the best results. All materials for printmaking are included.
